About the Branch

The Adventure Tourism Branch is responsible for overseeing the adventure tourism businesses located on Crown land in British Columbia.

The branch has the following areas of work:

  • reviewing and evaluating applications for new adventure tourism proposals and expansion of existing businesses wanting access to Crown Land and make recommendations to offer tenure
  • managing a diverse portfolio of active adventure tourism tenures:
    • Heli-skiing & Heli-hiking
    • Hunting & Fishing Lodges
    • Snowmobiling & ATV Touring
    • Horseback Riding & Wildlife Viewing
    • River Rafting & Sea Kayaking
  • leading consultations with First Nations for adventure tourism projects and develop accommodation proposals for approval by government.
  • working with the Recreation Sites and Trails Unit to monitor and manage the linkages between commercial adventure tourism operators and public recreationalists.
  • participating in strategic land use planning initiatives to ensure tourism and recreational values are given appropriate consideration.
  • working with the Aboriginal Tourism and Resort Development Unit to identify new business opportunities and developing a First Nation’s commercial recreation memorandum of understanding that will build new relationships with First Nations.
  • acting as advocates for the commercial tourism sectors.
  • ensuring the interests of adventure tourism tenure holders are considered in relation to other Crown land tenure decisions.
