CRGB Mission

We are a public service agency that builds, maintains, and provides land-related legal, resource and geographical information to serve and support diverse clients and partners in a timely and professional manner.

CRGB Purpose

The Crown Registry and Geographic Base (CRGB) branch was created from the consolidation of Base Mapping and Geomatic Services (BMGS) and the Integrated Registry Branches (IRB) in Feb 2008. CRGB is part of the GeoBC Division of the Integrated Land Management Bureau (ILMB) and reports through an Associate Deputy Minister to the Minister of Agriculture and Lands. The Crown Registry and Geographic Base Branch (CRGBB) is the source of fundamental geospatial data products, innovation and services for its clients. The Branch is tasked with establishing provincial standards for base mapping and related land information systems, along with aerial imaging and geospatial reference specifications.

Roles and Responsibilities

Crown Registry and Geographic Base Branch:

  • Sets standards for base mapping and land related information systems, and for related remote sensing and survey control functions in the province.
  • Manages the official coordinate reference system in BC, consisting of 50,000 monuments and 10 ground stations for satellite positioning used for engineering, navigation and mapping.
  • Provides standardized base mapping, including the 3-dimensional Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) program, Digital Road Atlas, TRIM Watershed Atlas – for use by government, industry and the public.
