GeoBC Atlas

GeoBC Atlas Section is a corporate service for all government ministries, industry, business, academia, and the public in the capture, integration, management and access to provincial base mapping information. GBA provides spatial base mapping, land survey control systems and support to air and orthophoto management all of which is then available to government and non-government clients. GBA operates on the principle that across government, data “collected once, closest to the source, well qualified, and used many times” is more efficient in terms of data capture, management, and access infrastructure.

Air Photo, Imagery & Cadastral Services

Air Photo, Imagery and Cadastral Services is responsible for providing clients with expert knowledge and professional services to ISO standards throughout the full aerial imagery lifecycle; from consulting and contract management of image acquisition projects to maintenance, distribution and archiving of digital and analogue imagery.

The section is also responsible for constructing and maintaining spatial data representing the current state of surveyed and titled parcels on Crown and private land as well as spatial data in the Crown Land Registry for surveys over Crown land.

Tenures and Boundaries

The Tenures and Boundaries section is the provincial agency with expertise in researching and interpreting land and resource status information. This can be extremely complex and require in-depth knowledge of historical and current legislation, policies, and precedence for allocating lands and resource rights. Accordingly, the section continues to serve client organizations in providing expert advice on land status issues, administrative boundaries and specific forestry and mining and energy tenuring systems. As well, the section contains the Registry Operations group which provides data and application management services for branch operational systems, and the Registry Attribute unit which maintains the Crown Land Registry for surveys, acquisitions and reversions.
