Overview
Air Photo and Digital Imagery is responsible for delivering the Provincial Air Photo and Digital Imagery framework of products and services through a series of standards and specifications. Activities include coordinating the delivery of the Provincial Air Photo Acquisition Program, producing digital and hard copy products and maintaining an Air Photo Warehouse.
The Section has implemented business plans and with new delivery models is shifting the delivery of these activities from a hands-on production approach to one of governance, management, coordination, oversight and audit. Under the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System, the Section constantly reviews business life cycles for continuous improvements.

The Air Photo Warehouse
The Air Photo Warehouse (formerly the Air Photo Library) is located at Suite 2, 4476 Markham Street in Victoria (location map) and is operated on a SELF HELP BASIS. Instructional materials are on-site to assist you. Orders can be placed using the Base Map Online Store and a valid BCeID or IDIR account and a credit card (VISA/Mastercard/AMEX)

Air photos are available for viewing only from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Tuesday - Thursday (except statutory holidays).
The Air Photo Acquisition Process
- The
Forest Investment Account website lists Aerial Photography as an
approved activity and requires
the adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure for Base Mapping.
- The project Sponsor may also be the project manager or they may hire CRGB or an other experienced contractor.
- The area to be flown, as well as the operation parameters such as the scale, emulsion, and photo window are established at this point.
- The Project manager will quantify the work and issue an RFP.
- Once the work is awarded, the parameters are supplied the Air Photo and Lab Service in preparation from inclusion of the images into the Archive.
- The Air Photo Contractor acquires the photography subject to the weather conditions.
- The rolls of film Are annotated with a unique “BC” roll supplied by the Airborne Remote Sensing Unit.
- The Contractor’s Air Photo Lab Produces hard copy prints, scans, data files (GPS, Film record) and indices according to the specifications for each.
- The products are put through a quality assurance process. This is the responsibility of the Project manager.
- The products are delivered to the Air Photo and Digital Imagery section for inclusion in the Provincial Archive.
- Digital Indices are posted to the APS IMF website.
