Crown Registry and Geographic BaseBase Mapping Corporate Watershed Base |
Overview
The Corporate Watershed Base (CWB) formerly known as TRIM Watershed Atlas (TWA) is a watershed atlas that defines watershed boundaries by height of land and provides a stream and lake network for water management and fisheries information.
The CWB adds functionality to TRIM 1:20 000 digital topographic base map data for the entire Province of British Columbia in order to provide:
- An intelligent, connected feature-coded stream network essential for GIS analysis and presentation of aquatic information for use in allocation decisions, planning processes and environmental monitoring; and
- Associated watershed boundaries.
Program Objectives
- Ensure long-term stability and accessibility of the CWB system.
- Offer support for operational administrative functions.
- Support modelling and planning requirements for fisheries and hydrology.
- Enable foresters and other planners to have ready access to CWB data to make more informed decisions related to regulatory and planning functions.
- Make the CWB available to users (internal and external) who require viewing-only access.
- Establish a policy framework for access and distribution of CWB data and services.

Future Products and Services
CWB-TRIM2
CRGB is currently investigating the business requirements/feasibility of a CWB product derived from TRIM2. Please forward any questions or comments to cwbinfo@gov.bc.ca.
CWB Service
In July 2008, the CWB Program will establish a set of key services needed by users which, in the past, had been developed on an as-needed basis and often not shared between users. A service is defined as an established set of routines, algorithms or user interfaces which manipulate, format, compile or perform calculations on the data, providing the results to the user. The CWB Technical Working Group will be engaged to provide input into the development of such services.
In 07/08, the Program will consult with its stakeholders to determine the efficacy of providing the following CWB Services:
- Upstream queries
- Downstream queries
- Stream Profile
CWB Services that may be offered in future years include:
- Stream Order & Magnitude
- Area Calculations
- Length Calculations
- Perimeter Calculations
- Generate Routes
- Gradient and Elevation Calculations
- Display of data for a specified area
- Finding specific features and their attributes
