Crown Registry and Geographic Base

The 1:250 000 topographic baseline data product has been produced by scanning various lithographic layers of the published paper map series.
In order to provide the 1:250 000 product as part of the BC Digital Atlas, Crown Registry and Geographic Base Branch has developed standards and specifications for the structuring of this data.
The 1:250 000 topographic baseline data includes planimetry, survey control, 1:20 000 and 1:50 000 reference grids, contours, wooded areas and reference data. The maps were restructured from the scanned Federal topographical maps.
Sheet boundaries follow those of the Federal maps and may be joined or extended maps. Unlike the Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) product which involves direct data compilation, the 1:250 000 data has been produced by scanning various lithographic layers of the published paper map series. (Unlike TRIM products, there is no direct data compilation.)
There was a non-standard offset (non rigorous) transformation from NAD27 to NAD83.

In order to provide the 1:250 000 product as part of the BC Digital Atlas, Base Mapping & Geomatic Services Branch has developed standards and specifications for the structuring of this data.

Requirements
Digital Map files are intended to be used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The formats supported are:
- Arc Info, Microstation,
- ESRI Arc Shape (Albers or UTM)
- DGN (Albers or UTM)
- MOEP (UTM only)
- SAIF (UTM only)
Note: SAIF files can be translated into other format using the FMEBC software.
