Data Modeling Standards
Business Modeling
Describes the data required to support the defined business need.
The business data definition is completed with a Logical Data Model.
The business processes are captured with a Process Model. Process Modeling is a Business Analyst function. Because the Logical Data Model and Process data Model are closely related both standards are presented here.
Implementation Modeling
Describes the database tables necessary to store the data. This implementation data definition is completed with a Physical Data Model.
Warehouse Modeling
Describes the view of the data required to have the data published in the Land and Resource Data Warehouse. Depending on the type of warehouse implementation, this may be a separate logical/physical model describing data summarization, denormalization, etc. or may be a physical warehouse view of the operational system.
This warehouse model data definition is also completed within the Physical Data Model if the warehouse and implementation model are both part of the same model.
Existing data models can be viewed in the CASE Repository: Repository Object Browser (ROB).
The ROB is an intranet based application allowing access to the ILMB Oracle Designer Repository. The Repository contains information on more than a hundred data models for a wide variety of land based systems.
