How to Connect Using ArcMap
To Reference WMS Data
Note: Different WMS Views will use similar steps but it is recommended that you reference your Viewer guide for specific instructions.
Step 1
- In ArcCatalog double click Add WMS Server under GIS Servers;
- Copy the WMS URL to the Add WMS Server connection window (e.g. http://openmaps.gov.bc.ca/images/base.xml); and
- click OK.

Step 2
- In ArcMap, click on the "Add Data"
button; - Navigate to the server connection you just added; and
- Click Add.
Step 3
- In your layers list select the imagery layer you wish to display.

Step 4
- Depending on the Coordinate System of your Data Frame you may have to change the Coordinate System to one supported by the WMS Service. You can do this by right clicking on the WMS layer and click on “Change Coordinate System…” and selecting one in the drop down list.
