Keystone species: a species that plays an important ecological role in determining the overall structure and dynamic relationships within a biotic community. A keystone species' presence is essential to the integrity and stability of a particular ecosystem.

Known: for the purposes of the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act known means a feature, objective or thing that is

(a) contained in a higher level plan, or
(b) otherwise made available by the government at least four months before the operational plan is submitted.
