The Quatsino Sound Coastal Plan area is situated on Canada’s Pacific coast on the northwest extent of Vancouver Island. The Quatsino Sound Coastal Plan area includes the foreshore and nearshore areas of the interior waters of Quatsino Sound as well as the west coast of Vancouver Island from San Josef Bay in the north to Brooks Peninsula in the south, including Klaskino and Klaskish Inlets. The Plan area encompasses slightly more than 130,000 ha of marine waters.

The primary purpose of the Quatsino Sound Coastal Plan is to provide a framework for a range of economic activities in the Sound without impairing the long term viability of the area’s supporting biophysical values. To achieve this objective, a technically based planning process was lead by MSRM and involved targeted and efficient stakeholder consultation and cooperation and collaboration with other Ministries, local governments, communities and the Quatsino First Nation. The federal Department of Fisheries of Oceans worked closely with Ministry planning staff on the development of the plan and will build upon this product in the course of further Integrated Management planning.
Within the Quatsino Sound Coastal Plan, management direction is focused on Planning Units.
